Samburu National Reserve;

4 Days/ 3 Nights Samburu National Reserve Safari is a road safari from Nairobi to Samburu Game Reserve located in what used to be called the Northern Frontier District. It is approximately 40 miles north of the equator on the road that goes through to Ethiopia, Sudan and eventually reaches Cairo.

The reserve is within the lands of the colorful Samburu pastoralists, relatives of the famed Masai. We enjoy our African   Safaris 3 Nights/ 4 Days in this great reserve characterized by vast, open landscapes, dried riverbeds (depending on the season of the year) and red volcanic soil.

The Park is 345km from Nairobi to the park entrance and covers an area of 170sq km

  • The dense woodland vegetation along the banks of Ewaso Nyiro, the river that gives life to the reserve slowly meandering from the west in the Aberdares and vanishes in Lorian Swamp is one spectacle to take note as you visit Samburu National Reserve.
  • Of all the East African major savanna reserves, Samburu is renowned for its rare species of fauna known as the ‘Samburu five’. These five particular animals are usually only found north of the equator – the Long Necked Gerenuka remarkable antelope which spends much of its time on its hind legs searching for succulent leaves among the withered scrub trees. The Reticulated Giraffe which is characterized by its liver-colored geometric patches defined by narrow white lines, the Grevy’s Zebra which is smaller than the common zebra and looks more like a horse, the Beisa Oryx with black horizontal stripe running across its lower flank and the Somali Ostrich males which have blue-grey necks and thighs.
  • The Wild life and the scenery will definitely fascinate you. The Hippos, Crocodiles, Elephants among many other animals and birds.
  • Superb place for bird watchers due to the large acacia trees that grow along the river.

A camel back safari is also a specialty in Samburu as well as a cultural visit to the Samburu people who depend on their cattle, goat, sheep and donkey.
